GARDEN CITY, SC – 37-year-old Charles Jeffrey Evitt of Garden City was involved in a driving under the influence incident early Friday morning when he and his car took a swim in the Atlantic Ocean.

The incident took place near Myrtle Brach when Evitt missed a stop sign, passed through the intersection, crossing the beach access, straight into the breaker zone.

According to the South California Highway Patrol, Evitt was driving his 1991 Mercedes on North Waccamaw Drive at Woodlawn Drive around 1:20 a.m.

Evitt was not injured in the crash and was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center reported Lance Corporal Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Evitt faces multiple charges including driving under the influence, driving under suspension and operating an uninsured vehicle.

His bond was set at $4,507.50 for these three charges.
