A speeding ticket in South Carolina is a ticket that a person receives for going faster than the posted speed limit on a particular road or stretch of highway. Sometimes the speed limit can increase and/ or suddenly decrease when a town or city is reached by the driver. Speed zones which rapidly change and go up and down quickly are often manned by officers at different points and are commonly referred to as “speed traps.” While this practice is legal in South Carolina, drivers should be aware that they are more common in small towns or municipalities on non-highway roads as opposed to the interstate.
When a person gets a speeding ticket the ticket can be written for and result in a 2 to 6 point reduction in your points. The points deducted correspond to the speed at which that person was traveling relative to the posted speed limit. For example, between 1 to 10 miles over the speed limit can result in a 2 point reduction ticket, while 15 or more miles over can result in a 6 point reduction ticket. The higher the speed over the limit, the higher the ticket in fines and points.
