Interviewer: What would you say are the signs of a good attorney and warning signs of a potentially bad one?
Thorough Knowledge of a DUI
Freddy: If you speak to an attorney, look for these signs. The attorney should know the different penalties for a 1st 2nd and 3rd DUI. The attorney should know what are the consequences of the DUI are with regard to the South Carolina Administrative Law Court. They should know what’s going to happen with the DMV and can answer your questions as to what will happen to your license. Look for an attorney that is knowledgeable on the subject.
Warning Signs: Is this Attorney Right for You?
The first warning sign is if you ask an attorney how much handling the case is going to cost and they quote you a price without asking you about your case. That is an indication they are not taking the time to investigate your particular circumstance. That’s first.
Second, if you talk to an attorney and they do not have experience in their practice with DUI cases. You need to ask them what percentage of their practice is devoted to DUI. A vague answer is a warning sign.
DUI Attorneys Are Trial Attorneys
And third, DUI attorneys are trial attorneys. This means that they are not afraid to go to trial, they actually enjoy going to trial. You want to make sure you have someone who is a trial attorney. If you encounter problems with your case, they are able to competently try the case in court and have the requisite skills and knowledge to defend you.
